Understanding Racing Costs and Logistics

Racing Costs

Note: This information applies to Northern California Outrigger Canoe Association (NCOCA) races, which can be viewed on the NCOCA website’s race calendar.

There are two types of races: long-distance and sprint regattas.

  • Long-distance Race Fees: $25 per person per race (plus a $10 towing contribution, totaling $35). If participating in multiple courses, only one towing contribution is required (e.g., $60 for one short and one long course)
  • Sprint Regatta Fees: Covered by He’e Nalu, so no cost to race

Race fees can be paid directly to He’e Nalu by Venmo, check, or cash before or on race day.

  • Venmo (Hee-Nalu-O-Marin or )
  • Check (Made out to “Heʻe Nalu O Marin OCC,” mail to 115 3rd St, San Rafael, CA 94901, or hand to the race secretary or a director)
  • Cash (hand to the race secretary or a director)

Membership dues pay for your program participation (recreational or competitive). If you do not race, you do not pay the race fee. The towing contribution is $10 per paddler per long-distance race.

Racing Logistics

All members must help load and unload boats before and after the race. The loading and unloading schedules will be posted on TeamSnap, and sign-ups for practice sessions will be the same.
